We are such creatures of habit

Enlightenment of youth or reminiscing through the journey of decades keeps the mind active and thoughts are reactivated beyond the current stressful moments of reality. Perhaps our reflecting abilities paint over the humdrum plodding activities our mind centers on during idleness. This may be one of the reasons we become workaholics! We could ponder the future, but generally we focus on fear or change rather than discovery. We are such creatures of habit.

At the age of fifty-eight, I begin to wonder if my thoughts have become more profound or just more knowledgeable of an extensive consciousness of the yesterdays. What phrase do you catch yourself using, “forty years ago, I ….”, when you are talking to someone!

From echoes in the wind, “you hear age doesn’t matter,” or “you are as old as you feel.” I’m not complaining about how old I am; I’m comfortable with my age. It’s nice to reminisce the times, mesmerizing one’s consciousness to familiar eras of their magical encounters of yesterday.

What would the competitive high-tech, high-financial, material world be like if there weren’t any books, stories, songs, poetry, or reminiscing to personify the things we do? Would the stress of project deadlines along with the anguish of manpower reduction be bearable?

I remember someone telling me that all she needed was her religion. I silently thought to myself of all the books, stories, songs, poetry, and reminiscing that actually made up most religions, especially hers.
