Tanka – 20121222

22 Jan

dense cold whited air
loud crashing breakers unseen
bell buoy echoes near
lighthouse beam my evening sun
second walk to the woodpile

I find myself with the urge to put on a warmer sweater and sip some mulled wine….

@jmmcdowell a fisherman’s knit and a windbreaker shell would be warm – the warm mulled wine should keep your toes warm – thanks for your comments

I’d give anything to be able to hear those sounds – one day I will live near the water again.

It must have been lovely to shut out the chill of the walk and sit by the fire…

    *smile/sigh*

    Lovely images.

@ML thank you for you comments and thoughts – imagine sitting by the hearth, while reading, “Snowbound” By: John Greenleaf Whittier

        Beautiful – thank you.

(I now have yet another reason to stay up reading – I can see myself spending many happy, thoughtful hours here D.)

I like that: “second walk to the woodpile.” last week we were in the grip of winter’s clutches, temperatures dipping to nearly minus thirty. Hard to find the poetic in that.

@jeff thanks for you comments, i remember downhill skiing in very sub-zero °F temperatures, wondering what i was going on a mountaintop in a gale… keep warm..

@evelyn Thank you – it is a bit more flexible than Haiku

Thanks for the idea about tankas. Fun stuff. I mostly write poetry without any strict schemes, but I do write songs with them. Haiku I knew about, but they always seemed to be too small a palette for my thoughts. Hope you don’t mind I referred readers to your site.

@david – thank you for your comments and referrals – haiku is my favorite, but it is much easier and flexible with Tanka
